There are over 30,000 parts in an average-sized car. It doesn't need to be said that a lot goes into making a car run efficiently. So much that is hidden under the metal body of our trusty automobile that we don't see is a vital part in getting us from A to B as quickly and safely as possible. We tend to take things for granted when things are running smoothly, but when things break or just stop entirely, we suddenly face a massive problem. While experts can and should fix the complex things wrong with your car, it's incredibly helpful if you know how to mend the easier parts, so you don't need to pay an extremely high bill or at least lower the mechanic's quote. Some may know the basics that many experienced drivers have come into contact with, and others may have the knowledge of an expert auto mechanic!

Joselyn wasn’t too keen on multiple choice in high school. She vividly remembers the first biology exam she passed by only the skin of her teeth, which dragged her overall average down into the embarrassingly low 90s (she doesn’t want to talk about it). After swearing off any high school or university courses that required multiple choice tests, Joselyn managed to get an English degree by sweet-talking her professors into offering only essay-style exams. Needless to say, this did not exactly endear her to her peers. This rocky start smoothed out in time, though, and after tumbling down a black quiz hole one day while putting off job hunting, Joselyn realized her hatred of all things a-b-or-c had faded and she actually enjoyed dreaming up new ideas for questions and dangerously correct-sounding answers. You won’t find her quizzes an easy ride, but Joselyn just wants to make sure you’re really testing your knowledge.

Did you know?

The first auto mechanic school opened up in the early 1900s

With car sales boosting up to an incredible 166% from 1900 to 1903, Boston Auto School was opened by Frank Palmer Speare to meet the demand for knowledge. Already in education as director at the YMCA, Speare realized that there was a training and teaching opportunity with the rise of cars on the road. It was already recommended not to leave your home without tape, wire, and twine when driving your vehicle, so there was certainly a need to teach repairs and maintenance. The lectures were for men and women, but the actual physical training was for the former. With 250 students in the first year, more schools were opened to meet the thirst for auto enlightenment. During WW1, women were let into these classes as men left for war, but as cars became more sturdy and more services opened, the do-it-yourself approach school was closed in 1926. Back in those days, male mechanics were known as chauffeurs and female mechanics as 'lady mechanics.'
