History lesson
Football, a beloved sport with a rich history, hasn't always been welcomed with open arms. In fact, there have been numerous attempts to ban the game, dating back to the Middle Ages. The first recorded law against football was passed in England in 1314, and by 1667, there were over 30 such laws in England alone. The sport wasn't just frowned upon for its rowdiness; it was sometimes used as a cover for violent protests, especially against attempts to enclose common land. This led to armed opposition in the 18th century, making football more than just a game—it became a symbol of resistance.
Across the pond in Europe, mass or mob football was the rage during medieval times. This version of the game had unlimited players and minimal rules, often resulting in damage to both people and property. Such chaos led authorities in Britain and France to try banning the game multiple times. In England, King Edward II felt so strongly about the disturbances caused by football that he proclaimed in 1314 banning it in London. The reason? The "great noise in the city caused by hustling over large balls" could lead to potential evils.
But it wasn't just the men who faced restrictions. Women's football had its own set of challenges. In the 1920s, women were prohibited from playing at English and Scottish Football League grounds—a ban that remained in place until the 1970s. Even today, female footballers encounter challenges in certain parts of the world. From its tumultuous history, it's clear that football is more than just a sport; it's a reflection of societal values, conflicts, and changes over time.
Quiz Writer
Joselyn wasn’t too keen on multiple choice in high school. She vividly remembers the first biology exam she passed by only the skin of her teeth, which dragged her overall average down into the embarrassingly low 90s (she doesn’t want to talk about it). After swearing off any high school or university courses that required multiple choice tests, Joselyn managed to get an English degree by sweet-talking her professors into offering only essay-style exams. Needless to say, this did not exactly endear her to her peers. This rocky start smoothed out in time, though, and after tumbling down a black quiz hole one day while putting off job hunting, Joselyn realized her hatred of all things a-b-or-c had faded and she actually enjoyed dreaming up new ideas for questions and dangerously correct-sounding answers. You won’t find her quizzes an easy ride, but Joselyn just wants to make sure you’re really testing your knowledge.
Did you know?
It's common knowledge that the show is based on a bunch of NBC sports commercials that aired in 2013 and featured stars Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt. But what other behind-the-scenes knowledge is worth a mention? Well, both Hunt and Sudeikis conceived the idea for Ted after playing loads of FIFA on PlayStation, so don't let anyone ever tell you nothing good can come from hours spent gaming. These days, you can play as AFC Richmond in FIFA 23. Then there's the fact that Brett Goldstein, who plays the endearing grump Roy Kent, was originally a writer on the show before feeling inspired enough to tape an audition for the role. We can't imagine anyone else channeling Man United's moody Roy Keane so successfully. Finally, guess who could have been playing lovable Leslie Higgins? The actors who portray Nate and Jamie both auditioned for the role, but it was meant for the inimitable Jeremy Swift.

(Two plus two will always be four, but every Golden Girls character is equally awesome.)
So, stop stressing. Just click on the answer that suits you best, and enjoy the ride. These quizzes are just for fun but who knows – you might just learn something about yourself along the way!
