To be vegan is to not eat any product of animals. Many choose not even to wear clothes that come from animal products. Even though adapting to a vegan diet may seem daunting, the vegan diet has become popular because many believe it is a better choice for not only animals and the environment. Thousands of animals are killed for their meat daily, and nearly 20% of human-made pollution originates from the meat industry. Beyond environmental concerns, there are many health benefits from choosing a vegan diet as well. According to the American Dietetic Association, people who follow a vegan diet tend to have lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, less chance of colon and prostate cancer and decrease rate of certain heart diseases. Being earth conscious doesn't mean you don't get tasty treats. A vegan diet is not as hard to follow as you think! There are many friendly choices at restaurants and many products available in your regular supermarket, including snack foods like Oreos! In fact, if you see food labeled as cholesterol free, chances are it is also vegan, as bad cholesterol only comes from animal products.
