Laura Ingalls Wilder was the author of the Little House on the Prairie children's book series and wrote the books loosely based on her life. She had five siblings and would later marry and have two children of her own. Laura began her journalism career writing articles for local publications. After the stock market crash of 1929, her family's investments were destroyed, and Laura came up with the idea to write an autobiographical manuscript. Experts theorize that her daughter, Rose Lane, who was also a successful writer, "ghost wrote" the books for Laura. Laura Ingalls Wilder died at home three days after her 90th birthday.
