Originally The Lion King was going to be called "King of the Jungle" but it was changed to simplify the story. There were also significant changes to the storyline, such as Scar wasn't originally Simba's uncle. He was going to be just this evil lion in cahoots with a baboon troop. Simba was also going to be friends with Timon and Pumbaa right from the very start, not the delayed friendship as seen in the film. Rafiki also underwent a change, with him being originally written as a cheetah rather than a monkey. A change that would have made the movie completely different was the song "Hakuna Matata", the entire basis of Timon and Pumbaa's lifestyle, wasn't in the original script. It was added after staff returned from a trip to Africa with the phrase suck in their head. Somebody didn't agree with how the hyenas were portrayed in the movie and sued Disney.
