Dante Alighieri's "Inferno," part of his epic poem "The Divine Comedy," provides one of the most vivid and influential depictions of Hell in literature. Written in the early 14th century, Dante's Hell is structured as nine concentric circles, each representing a different sin and corresponding punishment. Guided by the poet Virgil, Dante descends through these circles, encountering various historical and mythological figures suffering for their earthly sins.
The first circle, Limbo, houses virtuous non-Christians, while deeper circles punish more grievous sins such as lust, gluttony, and treachery with increasingly severe torments. The ninth circle, reserved for traitors, features souls encased in ice, with Satan at its center.
Dante's intricate and allegorical vision of Hell has profoundly influenced Western art and literature, shaping our modern perceptions of eternal damnation and justice. His work not only reflects the medieval Catholic worldview but also explores themes of morality, justice, and redemption, making "Inferno" a timeless exploration of human nature and divine retribution.

In Hinduism, Naraka is the realm of torment where souls are sent to atone for their sins. Unlike the eternal damnation seen in some other religions, Naraka is a temporary place of punishment. Souls undergo specific torments based on their earthly misdeeds, as described in various scriptures like the Garuda Purana. These torments are tailored to the nature of the sins committed, ensuring a fitting retribution for each transgression.
Once the punishment is complete, souls are either reborn into a new life or attain moksha (liberation), depending on their karma. This cyclical process underscores the importance of karma and the moral consequences of one's actions in Hindu belief. The concept of Naraka highlights the idea that while punishment is necessary for wrongdoing, it is not eternal and serves as a path to eventual redemption and spiritual growth.
