Seymour’s Heartbreaking RealityThat tear-jerker episode, “Jurassic Bark,” where Fry discovers the fossilized remains of his loyal dog, Seymour? It's inspired by a real-life dog named Hachikō in Japan. This Akita waited for his deceased master at a train station every day for over nine years, becoming a symbol of loyalty and dedication in Japan. All Hail the Hypnotoad! The Hypnotoad, with its mesmerizing eyes, isn't just a fictional TV show within "Futurama." The DVD special, "Bender’s Big Score," includes a full episode of “Everybody Loves Hypnotoad.” It's a hilarious meta-commentary on TV's hypnotic nature. And remember ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD.Zapp’s Portrait: A Presidential Easter EggZapp Brannigan's portrait in his bedroom is a cheeky nod to John F. Kennedy’s official White House portrait. It's a hilarious juxtaposition, considering Zapp's incompetence and JFK's revered status. It makes you wonder what the writers were hinting at regarding public image versus reality.Owls: The New PestsIn the 31st century, forget rats or pigeons; owls are the new vermin in New York. This quirky change hints at humanity's short-sighted solutions to problems. Introduced to tackle the rat menace, owls ended up becoming the new pests. Classic "Futurama" irony!Futurama's Multiple Endings"Futurama" has had multiple series finales due to its uncertain future. The writers crafted several endings to give Fry and Leela their happily ever after, only to separate them again when the show was renewed. It's a rollercoaster of emotions for fans, mirroring the on-again, off-again nature of Fry and Leela's relationship.Bender's Personality RebootsBender's personality might be influenced by his surroundings during a reboot. This theory suggests that the Bender we first met might not have survived past the initial episode. It's a fascinating look into the nature of AI and identity in the "Futurama" universe.Futurama & Simpsons ParadoxBoth "The Simpsons" and "Futurama" reference each other, but in each universe, the other is a fictional TV show. This creates a fun paradox where both shows are simultaneously real and fictional. It's a playful nod to the interconnectedness of Matt Groening's creations.Fry's Touching TributePhilip J. Fry was named in memory of Phil Hartman, who was set to voice Zapp Brannigan but tragically passed away before the show aired. It's a touching tribute to a talented actor and a reminder of the real-life stories behind our favorite characters.Cubert: A Nod to Nitpicky FansCubert, Professor Farnsworth’s child clone, represents the stereotypical know-it-all fans who point out the show's inconsistencies. So, if you find Cubert annoying, that's the point! It's the writers' playful jab at those who might take things a tad too seriously. The Alien Language ChallengeThe show's creators developed multiple alien languages for the series. However, dedicated fans kept deciphering them, leading to even more complex iterations. One hidden message even cheekily called decoders "compulsive Nerdlingers." It's a testament to the show's dedicated fanbase and the creators' commitment to engaging with them.
Quiz WriterNathan
Let us introduce you to the Listicle Liege, the Article Aficionado, the one and only Nathan. Since creating his first photo collage at the age of five with images clipped from his mom’s Chatelaine magazines (all of them), it’s been nearly impossible to stem this one’s tide of visual learning. Be it the annals of history or the latest celeb gossip, Nathan has probably researched it, likely already has a folder of relevant photos on his desktop, and definitely learned a lot of interesting facts to go with those images. Whereas most well-read adults have bookshelves full of classic literature, Nathan’s stacks are composed of National Geographic and TIME special editions and a curated section of first-grade readers (for inspiration). If you prefer picture books to wordy novels, listicles by Nathan are right up your alley.
Either you have loads, like Carol Miller, or you have zilch, like Dr. John A. Zoidberg. Money is a strong theme in the Futurama verse, and the characters sit on the extremes of the spectrum. Characters such as Bender and Mom are obsessed with money, to the point of being classified as downright greedy.
Then there’s the other side. The beloved but equally gross Zoidberg is a strange, vagrant-like character who has no concept of money and is excited by a $300 tax return but didn’t bat an eye when he had his hands on $8 million. Instead, he scavenges and scrounges for food and lodgings, referring to the dumpster as his home.
Let’s not forget Dr. Amy Kroker, Ph.D., heiress to the Wong fortune. While she despises the methods her parents use to get their hands on more money, she sure likes what that money can buy. She has a passion for fast fashion...if you consider those tracksuits fashionable at all.
