Hiromu Arakawa's beloved manga Fullmetal Alchemist has been adapted into an anime twice. This first series, also titled Fullmetal Alchemist, ran from 2003 to 2004. It left its story somewhat incomplete, wrapping things up with a 2005 movie entitled Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa. The story of the 2003 anime begins to diverge dramatically from that of the manga around the halfway mark, in part because the manga was not finished until several years later, in 2010. The second anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, ran from 2009 to 2010. Its story is considerably more faithful to that of the manga, and many regard it to be superior to the 2003 anime. It is also 13 episodes longer than the 2003 anime. In addition to the two anime series, the story has been adapted into various other media, including a 2017 live-action film and various video games, light novels, and audio dramas.
