It really should come as no surprise that one of the most iconic horror franchises in modern media is full of references to the characters and stories that influenced it. Five Nights at Freddy's has always been a love letter to the genre. From the very beginning, players could find little easter eggs for other franchises. For example, the infamous animatronic scream from the first game originated from the movie Inseminoid—specifically from the alien baby birth scene.
But that's not all! Even Freddy Fazbear's name is a reference to the iconic slasher villain Freddy Krueger. Five Nights at Freddy's 4's tagline is "The Final Chapter," which is probably a nod to the fourth installment of the Friday the 13th series. The kicker? Neither installment is the actual final chapter of their respective franchises. In that same game, there are numerous easter eggs for It. Honestly, you can't go very far in any of the games without finding a reference to something.
