Fascinating facts about Drake

Drake, a name that reverberates through the music industry like a catchy hook, is far more than just a rapper, singer, and producer. He's a man of many layers, each more intriguing than the last. You might know him as Drizzy, Champagne Papi, or even by his real name, Aubrey Graham. But do you really know the man behind the music? Let's dive into some lesser-known facts that make Drake the enigmatic figure he is today. Breaking Records Like It's NBD Drake isn't just in the game; he's rewriting the rulebook. In 2016, he shattered the American Music Awards record by raking in 13 nominations, surpassing Michael Jackson's 11 from 1984. And if that wasn't enough, he made history at the Billboard Music Awards by winning 13 awards in a single night. Talk about a trophy case! From TV Star to Rap Mogul Before he was spitting bars, Drake was acting them out. He joined the cast of "Degrassi: The Next Generation" in 2001 at the tender age of 15. Playing Jimmy Brooks, a basketball star turned wheelchair user; Drake showcased his acting chops long before he took the rap world by storm. Name Game Aubrey Graham? Doesn't quite have the same ring to it, does it? Drake, which is actually his middle name, chose a moniker that resonates more with his rap persona. And let's be honest, it's catchy as hell. Chart Domination Drake isn't just about the hype; he's got the stats to back it up. As of August 2017, he spent 51 consecutive weeks on the top 10 singles chart, setting a new record for male artists. His Hot 100 run is equally impressive, marking eight straight years on the chart as of May 2017. A Love for the Wizarding World If you thought you were a Harry Potter fan, think again. Drake has been on a four-year quest to find a first edition of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," even considering dropping $16,000 for it. Now that's dedication! Skating Through Life Drake's talents aren't confined to the stage or screen. He's also a pretty good skater, a skill he once showcased on a friendly ice-skating date with Rihanna. Yes, you read that right. Drake and Rihanna on ice!

Did you know?

How Jewish is Drake?

Very Jewish, it turns out! Drake is mixed race. His father is Black, and his mom is an Ashkenazi Jew. Drake's parents divorced when he was five years old, and he stayed with his mom, a teacher, in Canada. This solidified his Jewish heritage, and it's not uncommon for fans to see him post Judaism-related pics on Instagram. He famously had what he called a re-Bar Mitzvah at age 31, the inverse age of 13, and he's had many more since then, including one on Saturday Night Live. Drake even featured a re-bar mitzvah in the HYFR music video, and you'll see him reading from a Torah and donning a kippah and tallit. He went to Jewish Day School, as well as a comprehensive with many Jewish kids, but often felt like an outsider. Still, he wears a blinged-out Chai to this day and is proud of his religion and roots. You can see him being married off by a rabbi in the music video "Falling Back."
