How Care Bears taught kids about feelings and friendship
The Care Bears are a group of colorful cartoon bears that first appeared in the early 1980s. They were created for greeting cards by a company called American Greetings. Soon, they became very popular and turned into toys, TV shows, and movies. Each Care Bear has a different color and a special picture, called a “belly badge,” on its stomach. These badges show what makes each bear unique.
The Care Bears live in a magical place called the Kingdom of Caring. Their job is to help people share their feelings and be kind to each other. For example, Cheer Bear is pink and has a rainbow on her belly. She helps people feel happy. Grumpy Bear is blue with a rain cloud. He understands when people feel sad or upset. There is also Tenderheart Bear, who is brown with a red heart. He helps everyone show love and care.
When people ask, “Which Care Bear are you?” they mean, “Which bear is most like you?” Some people are like Funshine Bear, who loves to laugh and play. Others are like Share Bear, who likes to help friends and share things. The Care Bears show that everyone is different, and that’s a good thing. Each bear uses their special trait to help others and make the world a better place.
