Did you know?

What is the first color a baby sees?

According to research, red is the first color that a baby sees. Recent studies have shown that infants as young as two weeks can start seeing colors. The likely reason is that red has the longest wavelength, and a baby can't focus their vision farther than 8-10 inches away. As a baby's color vision develops, other colors will become visible. They can see the full-color gamut by around five months of age—bonus fact: Men and women see the color red differently. Researchers at Arizona State University discovered a gene that allows us to see the color red. The gene is attached to the X chromosome, and because women have two X chromosomes while men have one, women can perceive more variations on the red-orange color spectrum.
