Ultimate Fighting Championship has taken the world of combat sport by storm. A mere three decades ago, the government in the United States saw Mixed Martial Arts and cage fighting as an unacceptable display of bloodlust and enforced a largescale ban. Since then, under the stewardship of UFC president Dana White, the sport has put more rules in place while still maintaining its edginess. MMA's growing fanbase love that it's raw and real compared to WWE and more action-packed than the mainstream sport of boxing. Enthusiasts run the gamut from rednecks to doctors and lawyers. Numerous crowd-pleasing stars have emerged over the years to fuel the now multi-billion-dollar industry, and bouts are often highly anticipated global events. Gather your mental strength and roar, "This is Sparta!" because Fight Club starts now...

Did you know?
Well, it turns out there's more than one UFC connection to the underworld. Dana White spent many years living in Massachusetts. According to the UFC boss, he was run out of Boston by Irish American mobster Whitey Bulgur and his right-hand man Kevin Weeks. Remember Johnny Depp with blue contact lenses in the 2015 movie "Black Mass?" That guy! White claims the mafioso's foot soldiers called him more than once to say he owed them $2,500. When they mentioned a time and day for collection, White feared for his life and immediately booked a plane ticket to Las Vegas. The second connection comes to us courtesy of the Gottis. In late 2017, former don Junior Gotti of the Gambino crime family arrived at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island, to much fanfare. Fortunately, the only dirty business on the cards was his son's debut fight.
