If you think about it, emotions are feelings that we label as words. And our words can have a powerful impact on our own emotions and the emotions of others. While many believe that language and emotion are two separate entities, many psychologists think otherwise. An article in Harvard Magazine points out that we might not have emotions without language. We might feel emotions, but they're a way of communicating within themselves. Although emotions aren't audible like words, emotions do speak loudly to the rest of your body. Suppose you're mad; your heart races. If you're sad, you feel heavy, and tears flow. Therefore, emotions are a way for your brain and body to communicate. Sound confusing? That's because it is! We're complex creatures, and vast portions of our brains are still not completely understood. So next time you feel an overwhelming emotion, know that you're brain is having a conversation with the rest of you.
