Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or ODD, is a condition that affects how some kids act. Kids with ODD often get angry easily. They might argue a lot with adults, like parents or teachers. They may refuse to follow rules, even simple ones. This is more than just normal childhood misbehavior. With ODD, these actions happen often and can make life hard at home or school.
ODD usually starts before a child turns eight years old, but it can show up later too. Boys are more likely to have ODD than girls, especially when they are younger. Kids with ODD might blame others for their mistakes. They might get annoyed by little things and seem to always be in a bad mood. Sometimes, they try to annoy people on purpose. These behaviors can last for at least six months or more.
Doctors and counselors use quizzes and checklists to help figure out if a child has ODD. These quizzes ask about how often a child argues, loses their temper, or breaks rules. The answers help adults understand if the behavior is normal or if it could be ODD. Getting help early is important. With support from family, teachers, and counselors, kids with ODD can learn better ways to handle their feelings and actions.

Did you know?
Some children show a pattern of angry or defiant behavior called Oppositional Defiant Disorder, or ODD. This condition involves frequent temper tantrums, arguing with adults, and refusing to follow rules, beyond what’s typical for their age. Mental health professionals use special quizzes and interviews to help figure out if a child’s behavior fits ODD, but only a trained expert can make a diagnosis. Early support and understanding from adults can make a big difference for kids showing these signs.
