The sauce and McDonald's...
At the beginning of season three, Rick tries to misdirect the Galactic Federation’s lead investigator by raving about McDonald’s limited 1998 release of Szechuan sauce in promotion of the movie Mulan. When the investigator relives Rick’s fake memories of the sauce, he says, “This sauce is f*** amazing!”
Co-creator Justin Roiland lamented the bygone sauce, and a McDonald’s chef actually responded, “I’ll see what I can do.”
In the summer of 2017, McDonald’s shipped a bottle of Szechuan sauce to Roiland and a few lucky fans. By October, McDonald’s announced it would bring back Szechuan sauce, but for an extremely limited time—one day only, in limited quantities in select restaurants.
Fans rejoiced, and some even crossed state lines to get to the sauce, but they disappeared quickly, and fans became outraged and, quite frankly, a little crazy. Rick would’ve hated it. But don’t fret; McDonald’s announced they would be bringing it back in wider release for a longer period. Stay schwifty.
