Few things in dietary science are a sure thing. However, studies show that a significant portion of the population is not receiving enough omega-3 fatty acids from their diets. A shortage of omega-3 has links to depression and similar issues, as well as heart disease, neurological diseases, and even diminished intelligence. You can get omega-3 fatty acids from fatty fish, fish oils, plant oils, and some algal oils. Because it’s harder for our bodies to process the plant forms, it’s better to eat plenty of fish and fish oils to ensure you’re getting enough fatty acids.
