While there's some debate over whether the Braves or the Chicago Cubs are the oldest team in Major League Baseball, it's widely considered that the Braves are the oldest continually operating baseball team in the US. Although the Chicago White Stockings were formed in 1871, the team didn't play for the next two years because of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The Braves are the only existing major league franchise to play every season since professional baseball came into existence. The franchise was established in 1871 as the Boston Red Stockings, one of the eight charter teams of the National League, and they won the very first game of the NL on April 22, 1876. Since then, the Braves have gone on to win three World Series championship titles (in 1914, 1957, and 1995). The Braves began in Boston, then moved to Milwaukee in 1953, and finally ended up in Atlanta in 1966, where the team remains.
