Quiz WriterCharlie, Heywise Staff

Charlie took to the written word like a fish takes to water. That is to say; they found themselves immersed in literature from before they were born. They've been known to tell their friends how they can still remember the passages their parents read to them when they were in utero - Emily Dickinson, Jane Austen, and a bit of Hunter S. Thompson thrown in to balance it out. Charlie keeps their feet wet, whether they're whipping up pithy one-liners to tease your brain or busy working on their second novel (the first one is available on Amazon under a pen name they refuse to disclose). You’re sure to get a kick out of giggle-worthy explanations and outrageous hints, and still come away feeling like you’ve just expanded your knowledge base.

Did you know?

A peninsula divided

Did you know that to this day both the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and its southern counterpart, The Republic of Korea both consider themselves to be the leader of the entire Korean peninsula? There was never a peace treaty signed between the north and the south after the Japanese surrender in WWII. The two halves were simply created and divided into two zones with the Soviets in the north and the Americans in the south.

In ancient history, the Korean peninsula and the kingdom of Gojoseon were founded in northern Korea and Manchuria in 2333 BC. There’s a big gap in the history from then until the 7th century BC where the peninsula became the center of one warring state after another based on varying Chinese, Mongol and even Buddhist influences. In the late 1800’s the peninsula was being influenced by the advancement of European powers, and after a series of several rebellions and assassinations, the Korean Empire was created. This didn’t last long as the Japanese pretty much annexed the Korean Empire in 1910. The end of WWII led to the conditions for the Korean War and the current divide between the two Koreas we know today.
