Did you know?
In the entire country of Mexico, there is only one place where you can legally buy a gun. It is hidden in an inconspicuous building where soldiers work as employees.
Before entering, you must give up your cell phones, tablets, and cameras and pass through a metal detector. All of the guns are locked behind glass casing, and none are displayed on gun racks.
Mexico's Constitution actually does give citizens the right to own a gun for self-defense and even hunting. However, getting one is no easy task when there is only one gun store in the country.
It's called the Directorate of Arms and Munitions Sales, but advertising is banned in the country itself. No one wants anyone to know it's there.
In 2000, the store sold less than 550 guns. But obviously, word got out because, in 2015, it sold over 10,000. That is an alarming, though lucrative number.
The spike happened after the president declared war against the cartel. Most Mexicans state that they don't want a gun in their home. It only leads to trouble. From family accidents to government checkups to cartel break-ins. They want all ties with firearms severed completely. Many people don't believe that the authorities have the purity or the strength to stop the gun violence and prefer the gun-free Mexico.
But others wish they could easily obtain a gun legally to protect themselves from the violence. They dislike the caliber limit, especially as well as the inability to conceal and carry. This is just asking for a thief to steal the firearm, some say.
