Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is a global TV hit

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire made its television debut in the United Kingdom in 1998. With original host Chris Tarrant quizzing contestants for 30 consecutive seasons, it was an instant hit that became one of the most popular shows in British television history. A reboot with new host Jeremy Clarkson has been running since 2018. The US version launched in 1999 on ABC, airing during primetime with host Regis Philbin. The show was an enormous success stateside and has aired in various timeslots with a series of hosts – Meredith Viera, Chris Harrison, and now Jimmy Kimmel – for 21 seasons and counting. International versions of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire have aired worldwide, including in Russia, Brazil, Italy, Nepal, Poland, and Costa Rica. The Indian version of the game show played a prominent role in the plot of the Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire.
