Can You Name These Baseball Legends?

Baseball is lauded by most as the great American sport. It is true. There's nothing more American than eating a hot dog and watching a ball game on the 4th of July, especially right before a firework show. Baseball's rise in popularity came at the beginning of the twentieth century, and even back then, the sport produced some incredible athletes, like Ed Delahanty, Shoeless Joe Jackson, and Babe Ruth. Some of these greats set records that still hold today. Contemporary players like Nolan Arenado, Clayton Kershaw, and Albert Pujols continue to break barriers in the sport, too. They hit more grand slams and pitch more no-hitters as their craft evolves. If you live in the United States, you have probably heard of most of these players in passing. But how many baseball legends do you really know? Take this quiz to find out!

What was the Black Sox Scandal?

In 1919, eight members of the Chicago White Sox were accused of fixing that year's World Series against the Reds to get money from a gambling syndicate led by Arnold Rothstein. This led to the creation of a new position, the Commissioner of Baseball, to restore integrity to the game. Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis was the first to hold this seat. Landis permanently banned all eight players, including Shoeless Joe Jackson, from the game. Despite efforts to lift the ban, Jackson remains barred from entering the Hall of Fame to this day.
