Can You Guess the Oscar-Nominated Films?

Every movie producer has aspirations of making an Oscar-Nominated film. Some raise the money and get their film released only to see their dreams dashed by box office returns. Other movies become best picture winners after years of development. In many cases, if it weren't for a positive review at a film festival some of these films wouldn't have ever secured a release in Los Angeles County. By the way that's one of the requirements the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences requires for a film to be considered for an Oscar. So a movie gets made, and it makes a ton of money. That doesn't mean it's going to be an award-winning film.

A movie may get nominated, and that might be it. Presently there are 24 categories, so it's not impossible. Think you're enough of a film buff to name these movies that were nominated for an Academy Award?

Quiz WriterChantelle

Chantelle took to the written word like a fish takes to water. That is to say, she found herself immersed in literature from before she was born. She’s been known to tell her friends all about how she can still remember the passages she heard her mother read to her when she was in the womb - Emily Dickinson, Jane Austen, and a bit of Hunter S. Thompson thrown in to balance it out. Whether she’s whipping up pithy one-liners to tease your brain or busy working on her second novel (the first one is available on Amazon under a pen name she refuses to disclose), Chantelle has continued to keep her feet wet with words, as it were. You’re sure to get a kick out of her giggle-worthy explanations and outrageous hints, and still come away feeling like you’ve just expanded your knowledge base.

Did you know?

Mary Poppins

Did you know that Disney offered to delay the beginning of production for Mary Poppins if Julie Andrews was cast as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady? Even though Andrews played this leading lady on Broadway, she was not cast for the movie version of My Fair Lady, as she was beat out by Audrey Hepburn. However, this proved to be to Andrews’ benefit, because had she been cast as Eliza, she would not have been able to take on the role of Maria in The Sound of Music, which is arguably her most successful performance. Luckily, Hepburn and Andrews never held any animosity toward each other, even if Andrews felt initially snubbed by the producers of My Fair Lady. Both Mary Poppins and Maria proved to be wildly successful roles for Andrews that continue to make her a household name today.
