According to Forbes and Statista, Peru and Colombia tied for having the most optimistic residents. Out of the nearly 19,000 citizens polled in each country, 93 percent of Peruvians and Colombians claim they are expecting a better 2018 compared to the previous year. While Latin America has high hopes for the next 12 months, European countries seem to be more pessimistic than usual. For example, only 66 percent of citizens in the United Kingdom are looking forward to the New Year. The poll reported only 55 percent of French people are happy about 2018.
While Japan came in last with only 44 percent of people being optimistic about 2018, the Chinese came in with an extremely positive rating of 88 percent optimism throughout the country. As for the United States, 80 percent of Americans are excited for 2018 after a roller coaster election year.
The results did reveal that countries such as Japan with a higher age population are often more pessimistic than the regions with a younger generation. Another factor that may affect people’s hopefulness includes the outlook of job employment and a prosperous economy along with technological advancements and innovative environmental resources.
