When people think of sodas, Pepsi and Coke are the first ones named. However, they're not the oldest soda pops to enter into culinary fame. While Coke has 130 years of production under its belt and Pepsi has around 60, they're both predated by a couple of other favorites. Many people think that Dr. Pepper's start date of 1885 makes the Texas native the oldest, but that's not quite true. If you move a little further up and to the east of the United States, you'll run into the oldest brand — Vernon's Ginger Ale. Created by a Michigan native names James Vernor. Before he went off to war, he put a batch of ginger beer into wooden containers. Upon his return in 1866, James Vernon's Ginger Ale was born. Yes, the oldest known soda happened by complete accident.
