Do you get the zoomies, or are you better at crossing people's paths? There are no two ways about it; humans actually fall into two basic animal categories — black cats or golden retrievers. You shouldn't go any further in life without knowing which category you fall into, so we've created a quiz to help you find out. If you prefer solitude to constant nose boops, there's a good chance you're a black cat. If you'd rather chase a tennis ball than a sunny spot to lay your head, you're probably a golden retriever. But it's not really that simple. In order to find out your true animal self, we'll also need to know about your personality. Since black cats and goldens are polar opposites, it's vital information. Don't waste any more of your life not knowing which adorable floof you are! Take this quiz to find out if you're Halloween's most loved pet or if you're a slobbering mess of shedding energy.

History lesson

The fascinating superstitions surrounding black cats

  • In many cultures, black cats are considered to be symbols of good luck and prosperity.
  • In Japan, black cats are believed to bring good fortune and wealth to their owners.
  • In Scottish folklore, a black cat appearing on your doorstep is said to bring prosperity and good fortune.
  • However, in Western cultures, black cats are often associated with bad luck, witchcraft, and even death. During the Middle Ages, black cats were believed to be the familiars of witches and were often persecuted as a result. In fact, during the infamous Salem Witch Trials, black cats were frequently used as evidence against accused witches.
  • Today, many people still believe that crossing paths with a black cat is a sign of bad luck. This superstition is so prevalent that some animal shelters won't even adopt out black cats around Halloween for fear that they may be used in occult rituals or other nefarious activities.
  • Despite the superstitions surrounding them, black cats are just as lovable and affectionate as any other feline. Some studies have even suggested that black cats may be more sociable and friendly than their more colorful counterparts.
  • It's worth noting that the superstitions surrounding black cats are just that: superstitions. There's no evidence to suggest that black cats are actually bad luck or that they have any special powers.

If you see a black cat crossing your path, don't worry – it's just a furry little friend on its way to its next adventure.

Did you know?

Golden retrievers have special fur

It's no secret that golden retrievers are one of the world's most loved dog breeds. Since 1800's Scotland, these furry pooches have been stealing hearts. Initially bred to hunt ducks and other waterfowl, goldens are energetic and extremely intelligent. One of the things we love most about them is that you can always identify them by their furry, yellow-gold bodies. Although their full coat doesn't grow in until they are 18 months old, they develop a double coat. It's this double coat that gives them the ultimate in weather protection. Able to resist water, maintain their temperatures, and keep them warm on frigid nights, golden retriever fur does more than stick to your clothes and make them adorable. Their particular fur gives them an advantage when jumping in a river or rolling around in a puddle. If you own a golden, you know they don't mind messing up their blonde tresses. In fact, it's their favorite pastime.
